- Can DCMS measure the productivity of employees?
Tracking user productivity is an important feature of DCMS. The productivity of all the users in the DC can easily be tracked and presented in MIS report. DCMS provides several reports, which help you gauge the productivity of your workers like:
- Pick Slip Process Productivity Report is for the management to decide the productivity of the checker and then decide his payment based on this.
-
Carton Process Productivity Reports are developed for the management to get an exact view of the operators and their efficiency working on the movement of the cartons.
- What if the carton’s Bar Code is damaged?
If the carton’s bar code is damaged or is not readable, then the DCMS gives the option to scan any bundle from that carton and subsequently retrieves the carton number from the database.
- Does DCMS Supports Multi languages?
Presently DCMS supports only English language, but the task to provide Multi Languages Support is under.
- What is the minimum manpower-training requirement of DCMS?
At operational level no special training is required to be imparted to personnel. Managers and supervisors are required to be trained to some extent. Personnel can be trained onsite by experts from Eclipse Systems
The installation of DCMS is very easy without any complications. It does not require any special platform. It works both in Windows NT and Unix environment.
- What is the scope of human intervention in DCMS?
We understand that everything cannot be foreseen and simulated in any software package. Human intervention is required in some typical real life situations. DCMS allows the scope of managerial / supervisor's interventions for important decisions and in contingency situations so that system bottlenecks are eliminated as and when they arise without losing on valuable man-hours. For example sometimes it may happen that supervisor notices rush at a specific storage area, he can override the system by assigning new pick locations to the pickers so that time is not wasted. Or suppose a particular order has to be processed on priority, even though system is showing it at lower priority. The supervisor/manager can direct that order to be packed and makes necessary changes
- How DCMS supports Wireless Operations?
The operations at the shop floor level are specifically designed to run hand held radio frequency terminals and the emphasis is on scanner based data inputs. DCMS employs ring scanners for this purpose. This ensures that manual processes like pulling, picking are automated on the shop floor level to a large extent. Besides, DCMS provides sonic alerts for DC personnel for errors and instructions.
How is the quality of inventory is assured by DCMS?
DCMS provides various options for quality and quantity checks, which range from 100% spot-checking to random spot-checking. The items for random spot-checking can be automatically identified. The results of such checking are recorded. Policy decision can be taken by managers about the reliability of the supplier and extent of checking required in such cases. Goods requiring further processing are also identified and are handled accordingly. Similarly outgoing shipment is subjected to validation before shipping.
- Does DCMS maintain numbered storage location?
The goods are stored in specified numbered locations. Record of exact location of the SKUs aids in effectively monitoring stock at any given time. Goods can be conveniently retrieved from these numbered locations, whenever required. The goods can be pulled as per predefined business rules like FIFO, LIFO and maximum storage density.
- How DCMS handles problematic Inventory Issues?
DCMS addresses problematic situations like returns from customers or handling of goods, which do not satisfy quality criteria separately from the normal operations of DC, and thus the service level of DC doesn’t suffer.
- How DCMS handles misplaced inventory?
The inventory, which is not found, is put on suspension so that forthcoming pitchers do not waste time in searching for that inventory which doesn’t exist. As the inventory arrives later, it is used, first to fulfill the standing orders, which are marked as RUSH. Once all RUSH orders are completed, the inventory is placed in reserve area.
- Does DCMS provide graphical interface to view inventory?
Yes, area-wise inventory can be viewed graphically, which helps the user to make the necessary adjustments / modifications by redistributing the inventory in various inventory storage areas
- Does DCMS supports manual pulling too?
Yes. Manual Pitching is available for the infrequent situations where small quantities are needed from forward pitch to complete RED Cartons, or to replace mispicks or miss-labeled product, or to a Bulk
- How DCMS provides for automatic allocation & replenishment of Inventory ?
On receiving the information about which POs to ship, DCMS aids in automatically allocating available inventory to these orders. In case the items are in short supply, DCMS aids in informing procurement department.
- How does the system ascertain when Replenishment of the active pick location is required?
As pitchers pitch SKUs from the forward pick rails, the system automatically generates replenishment requests for these rails. Replenishment can be based on need or maximum units the location will hold. For example, in the beginning, replenishment can be configured to be on maximum units the location can hold and later it may be configured to be on need basis.
- Can more than one order be processed at a time?
Yes, it is possible to process more than one order at any given time. This improves picking efficiency. The system keeps an intensive check of the goods or stock units meant for different customers and flashes an alarm/warning if the goods meant for one customer are mistakenly placed in cartons meant for other.
- How DCMS handles urgent shipments when no inventory is available in picking area?
In today’s fast paced life you generally come across with situations where you’ve to send a shipment as soon as you can and you don’t have inventory in DC. To tackle such situations DCMS supports ‘cross docking’ where material received for 'RUSH' orders can immediately be redirected to packing without sending for unpacking, storing in shelves, etc to avoid time wastage.
- How DCMS prioritize shipping orders?
Since number of orders received can far exceed DC’s daily capacity so it is necessary that orders should be prioritized. DCMS has module designed to assist in this function. The orders can be prioritized on the basis of various predefined user inputs like customer information, ordered quantity etc.
- How DCMS handles special orders?
Companies around the world employ numerous strategies for the purpose of boosting their sales. These strategies take the form of promotional schemes, which are implemented as special packages. As the items, which a company plans to market during this promotional scheme, do not have the same characteristics (like price etc.) as the normal items, DCMS provides the facility for such items to be marked and separated from the normal items in the inventory.
- How DCMS handles bulk & small orders?
DCMS provides facility that all the stock units of one bulk order are located at only one place specially designated for bulk order handling. This saves time and resources wasted in collecting the goods from all over the warehouse. DCMS handles small orders with equal ease as it handles bulk orders. Small shipments are generally shipped through parcel carriers like UPS/RPS or FedEx etc. DCMS integrates well with the information channels of these carriers. At shipping dock such shipments are collected by personnel of these services and DCMS exchanges information with their systems for smooth delivery. DCMS ensures that at shipping dock these shipments are easily distinguishable from the bulk orders.
- How DCMS handles international shipments?
DCMS handles domestic as well as international orders. International orders need some additional handling requirements such as re-labeling, capturing country of origin for commercial invoice purposes and additional documentation requirements, which are not present in domestic orders. DCMS identifies a specific area in DC where necessary re-labeling etc is done and from here the orders are sent to dock for shipping.
- How DCMS provides for extensive audit logs?
DCMS understands and appreciates the importance of keeping an accurate track and intensive checks of each and every item that enters and leaves the system. Thus at any given time any item can be tracked right from its receipt to its current status.
- What documents does DCMS generate?
DCMS takes care of producing all necessary documentation.
-
Statutory documents like reports for custom authorities.
-
Legal documents like bill of lading, which is signed by the freight carrier when they accept the shipment.
-
Industry standard documentation, which includes packing slips, UCC labels etc.
-
Customer specific documentation as many customers require that packing slips must be in formats specified by them.
-
DCMS supports minimum paper work but incase paper documents like pick slips are to be printed, DCMS supports it.
-
Extensive MIS Reports - DCMS keeps very extensive record of each and every activity in the DC and generates exhaustive and comprehensive reports which help management in controlling the operations of DC and managing its demand chain.
.
- At what points can the UCC 128 shipping labels and carton content be created? Prior to packing?
DCMS supports both paper based picking as well as RF based picking therefore shipping labels and carton content can be created prior to packing (RF based picking case) as well as during packing (paper based picking case).
- Does DCMS supports the creation of a Master Bill Of Lading (MBOL)?
Yes. BOLs are created for the same Customer and same DC. MBOLs are created for consolidated shipments to One Customer but can have a mix of DC’s and multiple Divisions.
- How DCMS provides Third Party Integration?
DCMS has feature to interface with third party in terms of generating EDI standards formats or any other standards. DCMS fits neatly into other enterprise applications employed in the Supply Chain. This interface has three manifestations:
-
Receiving information sent in advance (Advance Shipment Notification) about goods dispatched from suppliers.
-
Receiving orders from the head office.
-
Sending shipment related information to Marketing/ Sales department. (e.g. Date of dispatch, UPC No., Shipment lading No., No. of Items, Carton -wise breakup, Packing lists, etc)
- And what about a contingency plan?
At any given time the exact position of inventory can be accessed through the generation of various reports, which help the management to take stock of any situation arising out of any emergency. It becomes possible to make contingency plans and take corrective measures well in advance before the problem actually presents itself. For example using reports like 'Shortage Report' the Managers can highlight critical SKUs and accordingly they can take preventive actions. Similarly, reorder level of the popular items can be decided using these reports.
.
- Does DCMS provide the ability to produce carton content labels and modify them based on customer requirements?
Labels are designed to uniquely identify each shipment. The format of the Labels is based on the industry specifications and they are pasted on the cartons during the time of delivery. Labels can be modified as per customer requirements
